3D Realms has said that Duke Nukem Forever will be completed before 2009. 3D Realms President, Scott Miller, was quoted saying “We can’t make an official announcement. Frankly, we may miss our mark by a month or two, but I feel very confident that we’re on target this time.”

It is currently unknown which gaming platforms will receive DNF, but Miller stated in a recent e-mail, with the Dallas Business Journal about DNF, that “..hitting the big three makes the most sence (Pc,PS3,360).”

DNF was originally announced 1year after the release of Duke Nukem 3D in the spring of 1997 and initially was to be released on the Quake 2 engine. A release date of 1998 was given and gamers around the world read about it in PC gamer. 3D Realms has run into a few problems along the way, the largest being they did not receive the Q2 engine until November 1997.

3D Realms announced the change from the Q2 engine to the Unreal engine in 1998 and this started, what seemed to be, the death of Duke Nukem. From 1998 to 2001, 3D Realms continued to state DNF was still under development even releasing screen shots and game footage. At some point however, 3D Realms website announcement that DNF will be done when its done and stopped further public discussion about development.

It seems the recent comments will bring an end to the 12 year wait, but we wont know for sure until the end of this year.

Miller has commented that there is a Xbox Live Arcade release coming soon to the Microsoft 360. DN3D will be available as a digital download sporting a new on-line multiplayer, co-op mode and Xbox Live achievements. “We’re really excited about bringing classic Duke to the 360″ said Miller during an interview.

3D Realms Co-Founder George Broussard has issued a statement, on the 3D Realms forum, rejecting Millers comments explaining that the release date is still “When it’s done”

George Broussard says:

In what appears to be an unfortunate turn of events, there seems to have been some confusion between what was ‘off the record’ and what was not. I suppose we’re used to dealing with gaming press and not mainstream press. Lesson learned.

While we have internal targets, dates and goals, like every developer, we are not ready to share them. What’s amazing about this is that the DBJ must have assumed that we’d actually announce a date to them, and not gaming press, and that even in the light of Scott’s quote of “We can’t make an official announcement.”, the DBJ effectively did that. Lesson learned.

The release date is still ‘when it’s done’, and will be until the appropriate moment. Platforms have not been finalized or announced. You can rest assured that we are moving toward a goal and that the recently released teaser trailer is the start of that process and seeing more of the game, sooner than later.

We apologize to gamers and websites everywhere for this series of events. Sometimes, you can be too trusting of people and assume things that come back to bite you. Lesson learned.

Letter Source: Kotaku

So if 3D Realms keeps its word on this download for the 360 it might just be the start of the DNF release hype. Lets keep our fingers crossed that Millers statements stand and the DNF team will have a release sometime this year.

Gucomics.com has it’s own take as to the games release. >>here<<

You may have noticed the other day we added a link to Onslaught 2.1 to our top menu. If you haven’t already checked it out Onslaught is said to be the best tower defense game of all all time, as well as a great distraction at work.

Okay, so you’re thinking “Oh no!, not another tower defense game. What makes this one any different from the rest?”

One word: Combos.

As with other tower defense games, you earn cash by obliterating the attackers that creep their way around any one of several maps available to play. With the cash you can purchase additional turrets or upgrade existing ones.

But it is the Combos that add a level of depth to this tower defense game not present in other games like it. The combos are many, and the resulting strategy becomes deep.

So if your bored and have some time to kill head over to our Onslaught page and see how far your tower defense skills can take you. We have also included a complete FAQ directly under the game, if your worried about all the rules and combos.

Play Onslaught 2.1 click >>here<<

What do you think? Sound off about the game or about your strategy for success with it in the comments.

The world’s most notorious BitTorrent tracking site, The Pirate Bay, won’t be going to Davy Jones’ Locker, even if its four operators are convicted of facilitating copyright infringement, one of the defendants said in an interview Friday with THREAT LEVEL.

Peter Sunde Kolmisoppi, one of the four Swedes charged in Sweden on Thursday, said in a telephone interview that the site has set up a clandestine, double-blind operation with its servers spread throughout the world — and out of reach of the Swedish authorities.

“The Pirate Bay is not in Sweden,” the 29-year-old Kolmisoppi said.

Where are the servers?

“It’s a distributed system. We don’t know where the servers are. We gave them to people we trust and they don’t know it’s The Pirate Bay,” Kolmisoppi said. “They then rent locations and space for them somewhere else. It could be three countries. It could be six countries. We don’t want to know because then you’ll have a problem shutting them down.”

The Pirate Bay allows users to search for and access indexed torrents, which contain the information needed to download data containing copyright-infringing content like movies, music, software and other material from users of the service. The Bay, he said, operates like the search engine Google, which also points the way to copyrighted works on the internet.

“We’re just a general-purpose search engine and torrent-tracking system. You can put whatever you want on the Pirate Bay,” Kolmisoppi said. “We don’t participate in how the people communicate with each other. We only participate in bringing the possibility to communicate and share files.”

Paul Pape Wii Chocolate Avatars are little Nintendo Wii Mii shaped chocolates. You have the option of milk, dark, or white chocolate and can choose any combination of the three. They run $15 and come in a little Wii shaped box. Perfect for that Wii loving lover on Valentine’s day instead of the so common dying flowers.

Unfortunely as of Monday January 21st, 2008 Paul Pape posted this blog entry;”

Hey kids,

I am not the one to throw in the towel. And I am REALLY not the one to turn down work. But NEVER in my wildest dreams did I expect the amount of orders and gratitude that has poured in from the Chocolate Miis. So much in fact that in two weeks I have generated enough orders to backlog the chocolate company clear up until Valentine’s Day.

I thought I could get 250 orders. If I reached that goal I would be happy. I made that goal in two days. I won’t divulge how may boxes we have sold, but rest assured that number was blown out of the water.

What do you think about the Wii Mii Chocolates? Let us know by leaving a comment.

Click below for the rest of this blog entry and a weekend chocolate project!”

Paul Pape blog continues;”

So I have to do the one thing I said I would never do, and that is stop taking orders. But not to worry, that doesn’t mean all of you last minute shoppers can’t get your Miis. The nice folks over at ThinkGeek.com have bought up 500 boxes, and will be releasing them on the first of February. So head over there and snag them up quick.

Lastly, as a way of saying thanks, I will be putting twenty boxes up on Ebay, with all proceeds going towards the Child’s Play charity. If you don’t know about that charity, it is a place where gamers prove that they aren’t all guns and killing, but that we have a heart, too.

I will be putting up those boxes on Friday, January 25th. If you have a little extra money, please bid on those boxes. I will also enclose a $10 coupon off of a Mii 2.0 or one of my other products with each box.

So thank you, everyone. You have really made my day, month, even my year. I will continue to create the Chocolate Miis after Valentine’s, as well as other festive geekery still to come. So stay tuned, and look for a newsletter in the coming weeks, when I will launch my newest geekery item.”

Wow I hope everyone that wanted one of these got in there order early. It really sounds like Paul Pape wanted to fulfill every possible order but just had to dawn a line somewhere to the madness.

A lot of teenage kids out there play dozens of hours of multiplayer Halo a week. They thus become insanely good at the game: They can kill me with a single head shot from halfway across a map — or expertly circle me while jumping around, making it impossible for me to land a shot, while they pulverize me with bullets.I can’t do those things.

I haven’t got enough time to practice as they do: I’m an adult, with a job and wife and kid, so I get maybe an hour with Halo on a good day. I wind up sucking far, far more than most other Halo 3 players, and despite the best attempts of Xbox Live to match me up with similarly lame players, I usually wind up at the bottom of my group’s rankings — stumbling haplessly about while getting slaughtered over and over again.

So after a few weeks of this ritual humiliation, I got sick of it. And I devised a simple technique for revenge.

Whenever I find myself under attack by a wildly superior player, I stop trying to duck and avoid their fire. Instead, I turn around and run straight at them. I know that by doing so, I’m only making it easier for them to shoot me — and thus I’m marching straight into the jaws of death. Indeed, I can usually see my health meter rapidly shrinking to zero.

But at the last second, before I die, I’ll whip out a sticky plasma grenade — and throw it at them. Because I’ve run up so close, I almost always hit my opponent successfully. I’ll die — but he’ll die too, a few seconds later when the grenade goes off. (When you pull off the trick, the game pops up a little dialog box noting that you killed someone “from beyond the grave.”)

It was after pulling this maneuver a couple of dozen times that it suddenly hit me: I had, quite unconsciously, adopted the tactics of a suicide bomber — or a kamikaze pilot.

It’s not just that I’m willing to sacrifice my life to kill someone else. It’s that I’m exploiting the psychology of asymmetrical warfare.

Because after all, the really elite Halo players don’t want to die. If they die too often, they won’t win the round, and if they don’t win the round, they won’t advance up the Xbox Live rankings. And for the elite players, it’s all about bragging rights.
