Mint.com – Refreshing but, bad after taste.

While Mint.com does offer a “refreshing” feel to money management, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth for customer service.

Forum posts from the Mint staff seem to be slowing down. Daemon Billian the Director & Customer Evangelismand was last seen on the forum 1/21/2008 and made one post, before that he had posted almost daily (Possible vacation?).  Users appear unhappy with the current system of support and something possibly needs to change.

Users dislike waiting, especially when they don’t have a reasonable assessment of when the waiting will be over. User interfaces in software utilize loading bars & icons (Just like on mint) to give the user an idea when the wait will be over.

Currently Mint.com does not have an adequate user interface for support & bug tracking. Without a loading bar or an alternative to hint at when the wait will end, users are left in the lurch wondering when changes will be made.

I believe the innovative staff at Mint.com could benefit from the implementation of the following as well as improve the customer service aspect of mint and allow tracking and reporting opportunitie.

1) Developers Blog – This would help glimpse at what is being worked on, instead of random posts in the support forum. Users understand developers are people and updates take time, please just communicate with your users. Look at this as an opportunity to save on some therapy sessions, vent how the new Sun server update just messed up a new fix that was in the works and now we are looking at a 2 week push back due to debugging.

2) Bug tracking system – Many open source projects utilize bugs tracking systems; such as http://bugs.gentoo.org. Systems like these allow users to interact in a controlled way with the developers. Bugs are entered in and checked so duplicates are not created. This lessens negative elements of the user experience of bugs, like the numerous duplicate new posts to add custom categories.

This might be a good banner for the Mint team office (as most complaints here seem to drill down to this)

-=Duplication Causes Frustration=-

and really isn’t solving frustration part of mints overall goals?

Overall, I enjoy Mint.com’s refreshing money management approach and can’t wait to see what updates happen in the future.

  1. Hi,

While not apparent to customers, I have actually been traveling for the better part of the last week & just now have regular internet access.

    A few things:
    1. We have a QA manager coming aboard shortly. I will work with the person so we can update customers better on known bug issues; I will also work with them so we can refine our process for bug reporting and tracking. I know the current system isn’t optimal & that the communication is sometimes lacking. Luckily, the person coming aboard should also be able to help us make sure that there are fewer bugs in the product.

    2. I’ve been largely working on Account Aggregation for the past month. As this issue draws the most repeat contacts, it is something that has to be worked on almost daily. While I know folks expect me to be active in the forums 100 percent of the time, I do need to advise that it isn’t the only job responsibility that I currently have. If I can free time up to be more active…you can bet I will be out there.

    3. We need to change the messaging on the site for some issues. For example, a temporary connectivity issue with a bank/credit card company needs to give better messaging than it currently does (something we’re working on).

  2. I’m new here, just wanted to say hello and introduce myself.

  3. I would concur that mint.com needs great improvement in their overall product quality and their support system. Their product is horribly buggy. Basic things like changing a transaction category don’t work. And worst of all, they don’t seem to do much about it. I’ve filed 3 reports for the same bug every week. One including detailed reproduction steps. All they did was send back some generic message saying they are working on fixing bugs without any reference to the specific bug. One would hope that a basic transaction integrity bug like this would get some attention. They have great potential so it’s too bad. If anyone comes out with a similar service, I would gladly like to try them. I also worry about the security of my data if they can’t fix or don’t seem to care about fundamental bugs like this

  4. Long time lurker, thought I would say hello! I really dont post much but thanks for the good times I have here. Love this place..

When I was hurt in that motorcar accident my life would be changed forever. Unfortunately that driver had no car insurance and I was going to be hurting for ever.

This was not time for me to start and guess what to do. I had to find a good accident lawyer to help me get what I needed. After all, my family was counting on me.

How lousy was it? I has bedridden for 8 months, I had to have constant care and my clinic bills went through the roof!

Thankfully, I found a good referral site to help me.

I will post more later this year to tell you more about what I have been going through.

If you need an accident attorney try the guys at here
