Pidgin – Multi Service IM Client

Pidgin – Multi Service IM Client

I have been using Pidgin (formerly known as Gaim) for AIM, Yahoo, MSN & IRC for a few months without any issues.

Pidgin is a multi-protocol instant messaging client for Linux, BSD, MacOS X, and Windows. It is compatible with AIM, ICQ, MSN Messenger, Yahoo, IRC, Jabber, Gadu-Gadu, and Zephyr networks. Pidgin users can log in to multiple accounts on multiple IM networks simultaneously.

Pidgin also provides many additional innovative features. A few of these are;

  1. Buddy Pounces – These give the ability to notify you by, sending a message, playing a sound, or runing a program when a specific buddy goes away, signs online, or returns from idle.
  2. Plugins – Text replacement, buddy ticker, extended message notification, and iconify on away are just a handful of the many plugins.

I suggest if your looking for an alternative to other clients like Trillain and Meetro give Pidgin a shot.

Note: Some people have mentioned that transferring files between pidgin & yahoo messenger sometimes fail. I have not had this issue occur on my computer.
